Amazon, the online retail giant, maintains a significant presence among consumers of all generations in France. According to an infographic based on Statista data and Consumer Insights, the proportion of Amazon's annual customers remains high and stable, ranging from 80% among Generation X (born between 1965 and 1979) and 88% among Millennials (born between 1965 and 1979) and 88% among Millennials (born between 1980 and 1994).
On the other hand, the share of buyers on Fnac and Apple sites decreases markedly with the age of consumers. These sites seem to attract fewer customers among older generations.
For AliExpress, a Chinese competitor to Amazon, nearly two out of five Gen Z adults have placed at least one order in the last 12 months, compared to one in four among Generation X. Interestingly, 27% of Baby Boomers surveyed say they have purchased on AliExpress in the past year, a figure slightly higher than Generation X.
Apple has the most contrasting demographics, with online customers ranging from 1% to 31% depending on age. In comparison, Cdiscount users show a more homogeneous distribution, ranging from 28% to 36%. This shows that some platforms manage to maintain a more balanced audience while others have varying attractiveness across age groups.
