To pursue its ambitions and continue to invest in artificial intelligence (AI), Canva recently acquired the Leonardo.Ai image generator.
“Welcome to Canva, Leonardo!” : this is the title of the press release published by Canva on July 30, announcing the acquisition of Leonardo.Ai, a platform for generating images and videos by AI. This acquisition follows that of Affinity, responsible for the Affinity Designer, Photo and Publisher tools, which was made only a few months ago.
Launched in 2022, Leonardo.Ai already has 19 million users. This tool allows you to generate images in various styles (realistic photos, portraits, animations...) as well as to create AI videos from a visual.
Now, the 120 employees of Leonardo.Ai join the Canva teams, thus benefiting from the group's financial and human resources to accelerate the development of their AI technologies.
It is important to note that Leonardo.Ai will remain accessible via its web platform, and its models will soon be integrated into Canva's AI suite. Another crucial point: no content created on Canva will be used by Leonardo.Ai to train its AI models, unless explicitly authorized by the user.
“We are so excited to welcome Leonardo.Ai to the Canva family as we work to create the world's first design AI technology,” said Cameron Adams, co-founder and CPO of Canva.
With 190 million active users and a valuation of 26 billion dollars, Canva does not intend to stop there. The graphic design platform relies on AI to continue its development!
Since the launch of its Magic Studio AI suite in 2023, Canva's artificial intelligence tools have been used 7 billion times, now comprising 12 AI tools integrated into the platform. Canva plans to quickly integrate Leonardo.Ai technologies into its suite: “We plan to quickly integrate Leonardo's advanced technology and its founding Phoenix model into our existing Magic Studio product line,” said Cameron Adams.
